Getting DDoSed? Let me help you prevent that and get your website up and running.
For years now, DDoSing has become too familiar of a problem. Unfortunately, in the year of 2017, denial of service attacks have sky-rocketed. As a person who works in internet security, I had been asked by friends what is a good DDoS Protected VPS Hosting…since I have already did my homework, I mine as well share with everyone so that you can keep your server online.
I have used a lot of servers in my time, never has it been so fun to test servers for DDosing. I tested a total of 5 companies…then narrowed it down to my top 3 choices, all of whom I am impressed with. I hope more companies can prevent against DDoS attacks in the future as good as the ones listed below. I have used the following hosts for a full month, sent A LOT flood of packets, and did some other “ethical hacker” things too. I also talked with some of the tech support agents to see if they could get my website back up once it was DDoSed, these are my results.

Why are some other brands not on my list?
I have received a couple of e-mails wondering why I do not include certain brands into my review list….well, the answer is actually pretty simple.
- Some services are too low end, some too high end. For example, Hostgator is great for shared hosting while OVH specializes in very high-end.
- Some webhosting providers are too expensive for what they are offering. They are not at a competing price!
- Not reliable, do not respond to support tickets in a timely manner.
- Not “ddos proof”.
In my humble opinion, I want to pay a reasonable price for something that works as advertised. This is what I can guarantee in my review list.
I am always looking to test out new services. If they get good reviews and a good test through, I will list them on this list!
1. Sharktech – Great Host for DDOS Protected VPS Hosting!
Stellar performance. If you are getting DDoSed, it is critical that you can get in touch with someone. They go above and beyond with this. They have a support ticket like seen with most providers. You submit a ticket and will receive a response within minutes (They have responded to a ticket of mine within 3 minutes at 5:30 AM).
Why I recommend them:
They do not take any bull crap. The only complaint I hear of them is that they have strong fraud protection. I am not sure why this is a complaint if you think about it as they are weeding out potential scammers from using their services. I guess some DDOS business is “black hat” business. If you are running some sort of illegal operation then do not bother with Sharktech as they only want legitimate business.
Their data centers are fantastic, they have a real grasp on how DDoS works and how to help stop the problem if it arises. I used the 2 Core, 80 GB VPS. It has 1,024 MB of memory, 20 GB SSD storage on top of the 80 GB HDD Storage and has 8 IP addresses which is nice. Usually you have to pay for extra IP addresses. I recommend this plan, it has a nice price point of $39 a month.
- Extremely reliable.
- Great customer service!
- Wide range of VPS pricing ($19 – $59)
- Get multiple IP addresses with each package.
- May verify who you are before they set up your service (Fraud Protection).
Out of the five VPS providers that I tried, I can still personally recommend this one. There are a couple of reasons why they stand out, including customization, price, ease of use and good customer support.
They are very good. If you are getting DDoSed, it is critical that you can get in touch with someone. The wait time is very reasonable for the times I asked for help. On top of that, they have a toll-free phone number. Also, they have live chat support. Lastly, the owner of the company (Ernie), actively participates on web hosting forums, which is always a plus as he stays on top of technology.
Why I recommend them:
Now, before I tell you why they are great for DDoS, let me tell you a little about their hosting plans. They have A LOT of servers, however, for the purpose of this article, I am going to write only about their VPS’s. They have self-managed and managed VPS’s. I would only recommend the self-managed to experienced users. The self-managed VPS’s are much cheaper, however you do not get cPanel, you have to monitor the server yourself, and deal with any security issues. For the purpose of DDoS Protected VPS Hosting, I would personally recommend that everyone choose the managed VPS.
Looking into the managed VPS’s:
Each of these servers comes with Web Host Manager (WHM), which allows you to individually modify each account on your server. With each individual account on your server, you get cPanel. Inside cPanel, you get the latest version of Softaculous, which allows you to easily install your favorite scripts, such as the popular WordPress.
Now the fun part. Each VPS node has a minimum of 32GB DDR3 ECC RAM, utilizing RAID-10. This allows for a speedy and reliable connection. The VPS’s have a 10Gbit enterprise connection to prevent medium-sized DDoS attacks. If someone really dislikes you, they will use a 10Gbit hit or higher on your website. Luckily, Hudson Valley Host allows you to upgrade to a 100Gbit connection if you deem to be that popular :).
You can see what else they offer and order yourself a manged VPS here: http://www.mavbug.org/hudsonvalleyhost
I can recommend Hudson Valley Host. With the power of their servers, it doesn’t matter if you hosting gameservers, VOIP, or are just unfairly targeted by DDoSer’s, they will be able to protect you.
- Good customer service!
- Wide range of VPS pricing ($25 – $55)
- Get a lot of storage space.
- Only get 2 IP addresses per package.
I have not heard about Javapipe before a friend online recommended that I try them out. I was impressed. They have a firm grasp on what DDoS is and how to stop it. They have some talk about unmetered VPS, which I am not too fond of, but their actual DDoS Services work well.
You can get a $17/mo VPS, but it is 1 core, 1 GB RAM. Not that impressive, not sure why anyone would go with that plan. Nonetheless, they have a higher end plan (the middle plan) at $54 a month with 4GB Ram, 2 CPU Cores. It is priced at a fair price point for a DDoS Protected Service.
Reading about them, I was impressed. I understand they can’t offer great services at low prices. They seem to have a firm grasp at handling DDoS attacks though.
- Great customer service!
- The $17/mo plan is very low end, would need at least the $54/mo plan.
- Limited IP addresses.
- More costly for better quality server.
Final Words – Wrapping it up
I was impressed with most of the VPS’s I tried. It was not easy narrowing them down to a top 3 list, but I feel these were the best. As you can probably tell, Sharktech really impressed me. Hudson Valley Host was not fair behind either. You will not go wrong with either of these choices.
I hope that this list helps you find the best ddos protected vps hosting for your budget. Do remember, not every single person will have a perfect experience with each provider. Having said that, I am confident you will be satisfied. If you think I missed a good host, let me know.
